Summary

A young farm boy, Luke Skywalker, is thrust from obscurity into a galactic rebellion against the Empire when he discovers a hidden SOS message from Princess Leia. Guided by an old hermit Obi-Wan Kenobi and the smuggler Han Solo, Luke learns the ways of the Force and leads the attack that destroys the Empire’s Death Star, embracing his destiny as a Jedi.

Structure

Act 1 - Setup

Hook

Luke, a farm boy on a desert planet, complains about chores while dreaming of grand adventures in the galaxy.

Inciting Incident

Luke discovers a hidden message from Princess Leia in the droid R2-D2, asking for Obi-Wan’s help. This message hints at the larger conflict brewing beyond Luke’s quiet planet.

First Turning Point

After finding his aunt and uncle murdered by Imperial troops, Luke decides to leave home and train as a Jedi under Obi-Wan.

Act 2 - Confrontation

Rising Action

Luke and Obi-Wan join Han Solo and Chewbacca aboard the Millennium Falcon to rescue Princess Leia on the Death Star.

Second Turning Point

Obi-Wan faces Darth Vader and sacrifices himself to allow the others to escape the Death Star with Leia.

Act 3 - Resolution

Climax

In the final assault on the Death Star, Luke abandons the targeting technology, instead listening to Obi-Wan’s words of trusting in the Force. He fires an impossible shot that destroys the Death Star and saves the Rebellion from annihilation.

Resolution

Luke and Han Solo are celebrated as heroes and receive medals from Leia. Luke embraces his identity as a Jedi-in-training.
