Structure
Act 1 - Setup
The Trade Federation blockades Naboo under the secret influence of the Sith. Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan arrive as negotiators, only for the Trade Federation to attempt to kill them on sight.
Hook
Inciting Incident
The Jedi evacuate the Queen’s party — including Padmé, the true queen, traveling in disguise. Their ship is damaged during escape, forcing an emergency landing on the desert planet Tatooine.
There they meet Anakin Skywalker, a brilliant slave boy with extraordinary Force sensitivity — someone Qui-Gon believes may be the Chosen One foretold by ancient Jedi prophecy (”the one who will bring balance to the Force”.)
First Turning Point
Anakin wins a podrace to help the group obtain the parts needed to leave Tatooine — earning his freedom in the process. As they depart, Sith apprentice Darth Maul attacks Qui-Gon, revealing that a long-thought extinct enemy has returned.
Act 2 - Confrontation
Rising Action
On Coruscant, Padmé petitions the Senate for help but faces political gridlock. Frustrated (and with Senator Palpatine whispering in her ear), she calls for a vote of no confidence in the Chancellor, elevating Senator Palpatine’s influence.
Meanwhile, the Jedi Council refuses to train Anakin, sensing fear within him. Qui-Gon asks the Council to promote Obi-Wan to a full Jedi Knight so he can take Anakin on as an apprentice himself.
Second Turning Point
Determined to save her people herself, Padmé returns to Naboo and reveals her true identity to the Gungans (the warrior people who live in the underwater cities of Naboo) to forge an alliance to take back her planet.
Act 3 - Resolution
Climax
A four-front battle unfolds:
- Padmé leads a strike team to capture the Trade Federation’s leader (the Viceroy) and force an end to the invasion
- The Gungans wage war against the droid army
- Anakin accidentally joins the starfighter battle and destroys the control ship
- Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan duel Darth Maul
Qui-Gon is killed, and Obi-Wan defeats Maul.
Resolution
Obi-Wan is knighted and fulfills Qui-Gon’s dying request to train Anakin. Naboo celebrates its freedom, but the Jedi sense a deeper threat: the Sith have returned — and the galaxy is entering a dangerous new era.
